MEDEMBLIK, THE NETHERLANDS-(28-5-2005) The weather conditions on this fourth day of the Holland Regatta were perfect. The, sometimes strong, breeze of 20-25 knots in combination with the warm temperatures secured a great sailing day. All of the planned races could proceed.
For the Tornado, 49er and the 470 men and women semi finals were sailed at the end of the day. The best six boats competed in short races close to the shore. Number one, two and three go on to the finals tomorrow. The semi finals were very exciting and for the spectators on the terrace easy to follow.
For the Tornado the ones entering the finals are: Fernando Echavarri and Anton Paz (ESP), Darren Bundock and Edoardo Bianchi (AUS) and Mitch Booth and Herbert Dercksen (NED).
In the 49er class Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes (GBR), Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello (ITA) and Albato Padron and Javier de la Plaza (ESP) go on to the finals tomorrow.
Mathew Belcher and Nick Behrens (AUS) qualified themselves for the finals in the 470 men class, even as Sven en Kalle Coster (NED) and Alvaro Marinho and Miguel Nunes (POR).
Marcelien de Koning en Lobke Berkhout had a very good fourth race day in the 470 women class. They won two of the three regular races today and also in the semi finals they sailed very well. They will sail the finals tomorrow as well.
In the Laser class the Olympic Bronze medallist and last year’s winner Vasilij Zbogar is in the second place in the overall classification. On number one we find Tom Slingsby from Australia.
The Yngling class has a new leader. The team of Sarah Ayton is six points ahead on the number two team Ruslana Taran (UKR). The Dutch team Janneke Hin is in third position. The numbers one to three are still very close. As Janneke Hin said: “Anything is possible”.
In the Mistral class Joeri van Dijk (NED) is still maintaining his number one position. Chi ho Ho (HKG)
is in second place only one point behind. For Casper Bouman (NED) the weather conditions today were optimal. He won the first race and in the second race he became second. In the overall classification he is in fifth position.
Tomorrow the first races will start at 10.30 AM. All classes will sail one race tomorrow. The 470 class men and women, the Tornado and the 49er class will start their finals at 12.30 AM.
